In 2021, our total water consumption was 451.70 million liters (ML), an increase of 9.18 ML (2.07%) compared to 2020, mainly dueto revenue growth (9.51%). Water discharge in 2021 was 374.82 ML, with wastewater drained into various industrial wastewater treatment plants, representing an increase of 15.46 ML vs. 2020. Water consumption was 76.88 ML, mainly attributable to the evaporation from the water cooling towers. As a measure of water use by revenue, (water intake amount/revenue of NT$100 million)in 2021 was 2.74 (ML/revenue of NT$100 million), a decrease of 6.79% from 2020. Water discharge intensity (discharged amount/revenue of NT$100 million) was 2.27 (ML/revenue of NT$100 million) in 2021, 4.76% lower than in 2020. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of promoting wastewater recycling at BenQ Materials.

Due to the mixed use of wastewater at the Wuhu Plant in China, recycling is not appropriate. In 2021, the discharge rate (discharge volume/total water intake) of each plant in Taiwan was 83.98%. If the water recycling amount of in-process recycling, cleaning tower recycling, process water treatment and recycling, ROR circulation and recycling, wastewater treatment recycling and airconditioning water recycling were included, the recycling rate was 82.11%. If the recycled water from the cooling tower were added, the recycling rate would reach 87.33%.
